In June, pupils from Strathearn School presented a cheque for £2962.50 to Cancer Fund for Children, having undertaken the charity’s sponsored read earlier this year.
Rebecca Oates from Cancer Fund for Children accepted the school’s donation on the charity’s behalf. She said, ‘For many years Strathearn have been loyal supporters of Cancer Fund for Children’s sponsored reading event, ReadOn. By asking pupils to get involved, pick up a book and raise money, they are helping support children and young people living in Northern Ireland, who are unfortunately impacted by cancer.’ She added, ‘Without the support of the local community and schools like Strathearn, Cancer Fund for Children simply could not support these families.’
Pupils undertook the sponsored read this spring, setting themselves personal reading challenges. Examples of pupils’ targets included reading every day during the week of ReadOn, reading a new author’s novel and even reading a whole trilogy during ReadOn.
Congratulations to the individuals who were the top fundraisers in their years, and to 1R, 2A and 3H who were the top fundraising classes in each year.
Many thanks to all the friends and family who supported the pupils by sponsoring them, and most importantly, well done to everyone who took part and helped to raise this excellent sum for Cancer Fund for Children.
