Mock Trial Competition
Strathearn pupils travelled to Craigavon Courthouse to take part in the Magistrates' Court Mock Trial Competition. Competing against schools from across Northern Ireland, the girls embraced the opportunity to step into the roles of lawyers, witnesses, magistrates, legal advisers and ushers.
Presenting a case in a real courtroom, in front of practising barristers and judges, is no small task. Our pupils rose to the occasion with confidence, poise and maturity, demonstrating both careful preparation and impressive teamwork throughout.
There were many standout moments during the day. Holleigh Quigley used evidence with skill and precision, Olivia Tanney delivered a particularly strong cross-examination, and Etta Cobb responded with confidence and resilience under questioning. Each member of the team played their part, contributing to a performance that reflected both commitment and collaboration.
While congratulations go to Campbell College on winning this year’s competition, we are incredibly proud of our pupils for the way they represented Strathearn.
Experiences such as this are invaluable. The mock trial competition offers an immersive and engaging insight into the legal system, encouraging pupils to develop critical thinking, articulate questioning and confident public speaking. It is a powerful example of learning beyond the classroom, where academic knowledge is brought to life through real-world application.
Our thanks go to the judges, barristers, court staff and prison staff who generously gave their time to make the day such a memorable and enriching experience for all involved.
