Strathearn School

We choose to study the CCEA A-level music specification. Currently, the course includes the following elements.

A-Level Music (Lower Sixth)
Performing (solo or ensemble, on one or more instruments and/or voice)
Composing
Aural perception
Areas of study: The Concerto 1700 – 1897; The Evolution of Jazz 1890 – 1929

A2 Music (Upper Sixth)
Performing (solo, on one or more instruments and/or voice)
Composing
Aural perception
Area of study: Twentieth Century Music (Copland, Vaughan Williams and Shostakovich)
Set work: Dialects for Uillean Pipes and Orchestra (Gerry Murphy)

New specification: September 2008
From this date we plan to continue to teach the CCEA specification. This is similar in structure to the current A-Level and A2, with the following new areas of study:

A-Level Music
Orchestral Music 1700 – 1900
The Musical 1900 to the present day

A2 Music
Twentieth Century Orchestral Music
Jazz in the USA 1930 – 1960
