Maths A-Level

‘A’ Level Mathematics is a popular choice for girls in Strathearn with two classes being the norm. These pupils will see their Pure Maths teacher for five periods a week and their Mechanics teacher for three. (Any pupil opting to sit the ‘A’ Level Mathematics course without a GCSE Additional Maths background will also attend two ‘Catch up’ classes per week.) At the end of the first year of the course the girls will sit three exams to gain an ‘AS’ Level qualification: C1, C2 and M1. In Upper Sixth they will sit the remaining three modules: C3, C4 and M2.

A significant number of girls chose a greater challenge; to complete this course in one year instead of two. This affords them opportunity to complete the Further Mathematics ‘A’ Level course in their Upper Sixth year. Thus in Lower Sixth they gain a qualification in ‘A’ Level Maths by sitting all six modules: C1, C2, C3, C4, M1 and M2. In Upper Sixth these girls will sit FP1, FP2, FP3, S1, M3 and M4.
