Home Economics Achievements
British Nutrition Foundation Prizes
Each year, the BNF awards two prizes to students who have completed CCEA courses in Home Economics – one at AS level and one at GCSE level.
2002 – 2003
Susan McCullough won the prize for the top mark in AS Module 2 “Diet and Health” and Laura Pryde won the prize for the top coursework assignment at GCSE. BNF told us that this was the first time that the same school had received both prizes.
Susan and Laura received their awards at the BNF annual conference, held at the Royal College of Physicians in London. Susan received £100 for herself and £200 for the school, and Laura received £50 with £100 for the school.
2004 – 2005
Natalie McCloskey won the BNF prize for achieving the top mark in her GCSE Home Economics coursework component. The prize was presented to Natalie by the Princess Royal in London.
Natalie also achieved joint first place in the CCEA GCSE Home Economics exam, for which she received a prize of £100 from the Dairy Council, N.I.
2005 – 2006
In 2006 Robyn McMurray was awarded the British Nutrition Foundation Prize for achieving the top grade in AS Module 2 (Diet and Health). She travelled to the Royal College of Physicians, London, to receive her prize of £100 plus £200 for the school. This is now the fourth occasion in the past five years on which Strathearn girls have been awarded the BNF prizes for their achievements in Home Economics.
Food Standards Agency Prize
2003 – 2004
Claire Harper was awarded a prize by the Food Standards Agency for achieving the top mark in A2 Module 6 “Food Production, Preservation and Processing”. Claire received an ‘Ipax’ pocket PC and a shield.
