GCSE English and GCSE English Literature

All girls take GCSE English and GCSE English Literature.

For GCSE English, girls complete oral and written coursework, worth 40% of the final qualification. They sit two examination papers.

Paper 1: literary comprehension                    
discursive writing

Paper 2: non-literary comprehension
transactional / functional writing

Written coursework:

response to poetry
(20%) response to Shakespeare
creative / personal writing
persuasive writing

Oral coursework: 3 best oral assignments from the 2 year course

 

For GCSE English Literature, girls complete written coursework, worth
30% of the final qualification. They sit one examination paper.

Examination: essay on the novel studied (To Kill a Mockingbird)
essay on the play studied (Dancing at Lughnasa or Our Town
essay on the poetry studied (CCEA Anthology)

coursework: response to poetry (crossover piece with English)
response to Shakespeare (crossover piece with English)
response to a pre-twentieth century novel
