Chemistry Department

Chemistry is the study of elements and the compounds they form. In the Chemistry department we aim to raise the awareness of the ways in which chemists can contribute to society and develop technological advances. Through this subject pupils’ curiosity about, interest in and knowledge of the world around them is stimulated allowing them to take and develop an informed position in chemical matters.

At key stage three, chemistry is taught through a series of Science modules. Pupils develop their chemical knowledge at key stage four either through Double Award Science GCSE or Chemistry GCSE, both of these allow access to AS and A2 Chemistry in Sixth Form.

Our department has three highly experienced Chemistry teachers ably supported by two technicians. We place a strong emphasis on practical work and actively encourage the girls to think critically and develop independent study skills.
